Mme Marcia Hilger
I am delighted to continue my tenure at Rancho Mirage High School. My love of French began as a middle school student in Iowa and blossomed during my senior year of Bachelor’s studies at the Sorbonne in Paris and Université Stendhal in Grenoble in the French Alps. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Simpson College in 1999 with a Bachelor of Arts in French and German. Immediately continuing my studies abroad, I completed my Master of Arts in French in 2000 at the Sorbonne and Institut Catholique in Paris under the auspices of Middlebury College.
I then taught French, levels 1 through International Baccalaureate 6, to grades 8 through 12 from 2001 to 2006 in Virginia, where I was honored as a ‘Professeur du Lauréat’ for my students’ high achievement on the National French Exam through the American Association of Teachers of French. Notable achievements during my tenure at Chesterfield County Public Schools include presenting techniques to enhance reading comprehension and writing skills at the 2004 annual state-wide conference of the Foreign Language Association of Virginia and the Spring 2005 district-wide in-service training, writing the French level 3 district exam, and chairing the textbook adoption committee for French levels 4, 5, AP, and 6.
Most recently, I have used my fluency to communicate with colleagues across the francophone world during my career in international finance in New York City at the French bank, Société Générale. While in New York, I also instructed MBA students in French in conjunction with Columbia University. I am excited to share my passion and extensive experience with my students at RMHS and look forward to preparing them be full participants of our global society, as well as life-long learners.
